For this blog, I will write about attending the 2019 Rose Bowl where the Washington Huskies played against the Ohio State Buckeyes. While this was not technically an "away" game, it was unlike any experience I have ever had, and I think it is worth writing about. The first thing worth mentioning is the location. If you didn't already know, the Rose Bowl stadium is in Pasadena, California, and I was greeted with warm weather that I was not used to as a Colorado native the day after the new year. If you are looking for a break from the cold weather, I highly recommend making an excuse to attend the Rose Bowl.
One of my favorite memories from that weekend was being able to experience the parade. Before the actual parade, I got to take a tour of the facility that held all of the flowers and saw how they decorated the floats. The parade itself was a massive production with bands and floats decorated to the nines. Although I was most excited to watch football, I was glad that at a younger age, I could appreciate the parade.
Prior to the game I also got to take a tour of the stadium. I got to look at the historic murals on the walls of the stadiums and the football legends they have honored in the form of statues. They took us to the broadcast booth where I was able to get the best view of inside the stadium, with half the stands colored red for the Buckeyes and the other half colored purple for the Huskies, with the Rose Bowl logo in the center of the field.
The game itself, although not all that entertaining until the very end (especially since I was rooting for the Huskies) was incredible and the overall production of the event was something I recommend all college football fans try to attend. Who knows, maybe your favorite college football team will make it there someday!
